Lutein & Zeaxanthin

Seeing is believing

Extracted from the eye catching Marigold plant, Lutein and Zeaxanthin are dietary Carotenoids* which are concentrated in the macula (back of the eye). In ancient times, Marigold was used in the New World and is a sacred flower of the Aztecs. It was first cultivated in Spain, later introduced to France and northern Africa.

Your macula is essential for healthy vision; Lutein and Zeaxanthin work together as antioxidants to protect sight.

*Carotenoids are plant pigments responsible for bright red, yellow and orange hues in many fruits and vegetables. They are a class of phytonutrients found in the cells of a wide variety of plants, algae and bacteria. They help plants absorb light energy for use in photosynthesis.

Today, Lutein & Zeaxanthin may be used to:

  • Blocking blue light from reaching the underlying structures in the retina
  • Reduce the risk of light-induced oxidative damage to the eye
  • A number of studies have found that lutein and zeaxanthin either help prevent AMD or may slow it’s progression
  • May also be beneficial to prevent cataracts, retinopathy, detachment, and inflammation
